SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser has revealed that the band has already recorded four new songs with its new drummer, Greyson Nekrutman, with plans to release an EP in 2026. The new music will be the first to feature Nekrutman, who officially replaced longtime drummer Eloy Casagrande in February 2024 after Casagrande’s abrupt departure to join SLIPKNOT.
In a new interview with Jarek Szubrycht as part of “Mystic Talks” at this year’s Mystic Festival in Gdańsk, Poland, Kisser broke the news about the unexpected recording session.

“We recorded four new songs with Greyson on drums. I don’t think nobody knows that, but there we go,” Andreas said. “We have four new songs, and we have the intention, next year, to release an EP, just to celebrate this momentum. It’s original songs that we worked [out]. It’s already recorded and everything, and we’re taking our time, really, to see where it’s gonna be the good time to do it.”
The announcement comes as a surprise, as SEPULTURA is in the midst of its “Celebrating Life Through Death” farewell world tour. The decision to record new material was spurred by the creative energy brought in by the 23-year-old Nekrutman.
Eloy’s exit in February, 2024, just weeks before the farewell tour was set to begin, caught the band completely off guard. “We were very surprised by his decision,” Kisser told Overdrive.ie’s Oran O’Beirne in another recent interview.
“We were working on the farewell tour for two years with him and three weeks before the first show, he decided to leave out of nowhere. It was really weird.”
Vocalist Derrick Green, speaking to IgorMiranda.com.br, expressed his own shock at the drummer’s sudden departure.
“It was definitely a surprise for us… It was a really difficult moment, something we never imagined would happen.”
Despite the initial chaos, Kisser acted quickly to secure a replacement. “Greyson came up to my mind right away,” he explained to Overdrive.ie.
“My son, Yohan, showed me his videos, Derrick saw him playing with SUICIDAL TENDENCIES in L.A… I called him and 48 hours later, we were together.”
Nekrutman, a rising star in the drumming community, has injected new life into the Brazilian metal legends.
In an interview with Metal Hammer, Green praised the young drummer’s impact. “Greyson is definitely up for the challenge,” he said.
“Him having that drive to want to learn these songs is incredible for us, because it gives us that energy to do things that we haven’t done for a long time. It’s happening faster than I could imagine.”
This new momentum is what led the band back into the studio, even as they say goodbye to the road. The upcoming EP will serve (I hope) as a document of this new chapter for SEPULTURA.
While the band is still focused on its extensive farewell tour, which is planned to conclude in late 2026 with a massive show in Brazil, the new music shows that the creative spirit of SEPULTURA is not yet finished.
“We’re rethinking things from scratch,” Kisser admitted to Louder Sound.
“It was a forced situation that made us look at everything in a different light, from the setlist to the whole dynamic of the tour. Now with Greyson in the band, we’re building something new, something that feels fresh and exciting.”
The guitarist further emphasized:
“Greyson has come in with full power and a very positive attitude, and we’re growing fast.”

In February 2020, SEPULTURA issued their 15th studio album, “Quadra”, via Nuclear Blast Records. Produced by Jens Bogren, the album was promoted through the pandemic-era “SepulQuarta” livestream series, which later became a collaborative record released in August 2021.
In December 2023, SEPULTURA announced plans to disband after four decades, unveiling their global farewell trek, “Celebrating Life Through Death”, scheduled to run from 2024 into 2025.
The tour kicked off in March 2024 in Brazil and expanded across South America, North America, Europe, and Asia.
On February 6, 2024, longtime drummer Eloy Casagrande informed the band of his departure “to pursue another project,” later revealed as SLIPKNOT, who confirmed him as their new drummer in April 2024.
SEPULTURA quickly recruited Greyson Nekrutman (ex-Suicidal Tendencies) as his replacement, and he made his live debut during the farewell tour.
Meanwhile former members Max Cavalera and Igor Cavalera continued revisiting SEPULTURA’s early material under their CAVALERA project.
Between 2022 and 2023, they re-recorded the classic albums “Bestial Devastation”, “Morbid Visions”, and “Schizophrenia”, presenting them on tour with new bandmates while the official SEPULTURA lineup moved toward its final chapter.
