The Gist

As I Lay Dying is gearing up to drop their latest album, Through Storms Ahead, set to land on November 15. Nestled among the tracks are “Burden,” “The Cave We Fear to Enter,” and the freshly unleashed “We Are The Dead.” This time, they’ve roped in not one but two deathcore heavy hitters—Alex Terrible (Slaughter to Prevail) and Tom Barber (Chelsea Grin, Darko). If subtlety was what you were expecting, you’ve wandered into the wrong band.

Guitarist Phil Sgrosso, never one to mince words, described the track as “brutal territory” that leans heavily into their thrashier instincts while still sprinkling in a dash of melody. He went on to declare, “This might be the meanest we’ve ever sounded.” And when you’ve got Alex Terrible barking on your track like some unhinged hellhound and Tom Barber doing what he does best (read: obliterating eardrums), it’s hard to argue.

The accompanying video, courtesy of longtime collaborator Tom Flynn, apparently delivers some “visually creative undertaking.” Sure, Phil, we’ll take your word for it. Let’s hope it lives up to the description and doesn’t just mean random slow-motion shots of fire and shadows—metal bands have certainly been there and done that.

In 2024, As I Lay Dying is a mix of the old guard and fresh recruits. Vocalist Tim Lambesis and guitarist Phil Sgrosso still helm the operation, joined by bassist Ryan Neff, drummer Nick Pierce, and guitarist Ken Susi. A lineup that clearly isn’t afraid to double down on aggression, even if it occasionally means outsourcing it.

If you’re looking to pre-order Through Storms Ahead and join the chaos, Napalm Records has your back. Click here to get your hands on it before the November drop. Until then, brace yourselves for whatever “brutal territory” they think we haven’t already heard a hundred times before.
