Mysterious times for As I Lay Dying fans. The band’s 2019 comeback album, Shaped By Fire, has all but vanished from streaming platforms, and the silence around its absence just adds to the mystery. The PRP first flagged the disappearance, noting that the album isn’t just missing from Spotify or Apple Music; it’s nowhere to be found on Bandcamp either. For now, it’s like the album never existed.
There’s been no word from the band. For a group already surrounded by enough controversy to fill a thriller novel, another piece vanishing only cranks up the intrigue. Shaped By Fire was initially released under Nuclear Blast and marked the band’s return after Tim Lambesis’ release from jail—yes, that infamous 2013 incident where he attempted to hire a hitman to kill his then-wife, Meggan Murphy.

It was a pivotal comeback, featuring guitarists Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso, bassist Josh Gilbert, and drummer Jordan Mancino. As of now, Sgrosso is the only one left in the band. Then again, who knows how long that will last.
The unraveling began gradually: first, Ryan Neff left without much fanfare. Shortly after, their tour manager quit amid speculation that their European tour was headed straight for the scrap heap. Soon after, Ken Susi announced his departure, citing that his “personal morals have recently been tested to a breaking point.” Next, drummer Nick Pierce walked, explaining that he needed “to distance myself from the band in an effort to retain my personal health and integrity.” And the European tour? Cancelled, of course. As a cherry on top, As I Lay Dying didn’t even make the announcement themselves.
An update from As I Lay Dying finally broke the silence, confirming that Shaped By Fire was taken down because of a licensing expiration. Apparently, a five-year distribution deal ran its course, reverting ownership back to the band. They promised fans that the album will return online eventually, but they need “a moment for processing.”
The band added a closing note on Instagram: “Sorry for the temporary inconvenience of Shaped By Fire not being available on streaming services. The album has reverted back to band ownership, and we’re working on getting it back up. Hang tight!”
As for the band’s ongoing internal chaos? They’re “sorting through the details” and promised more information soon. So far, it’s one big waiting game—and one more strange chapter in the As I Lay Dying saga.
