AVRIL LAVIGNE And DERYCK WHIBLEY Reunite Onstage 15 Years After Divorce
Ex-couple performs together at Warped Tour, marking a rare public moment since their 2010 split.

Avril Lavigne brought a familiar face on stage during her set at the Vans Warped Tour 30th anniversary show in Washington, DC this past Sunday.
The surprise guest? Her ex-husband, Deryck Whibley of Sum 41.

They reunited briefly to perform “In Too Deep”, one of Sum 41’s most recognizable tracks. The crowd welcomed the moment with loud cheers.
Before the song, Lavigne told the audience:
“What do you say we bring one of the OG Warped Tour bands back out here tonight to join me right now? I know they’re one of my favorite pop-punk bands. What about you? Let’s hear it for Deryck from Sum f-ing 41!”
Whibley stepped on stage with a smile and a bit of humor:
“Holy sh-t, god d-mn. I thought I f-ing quit music. But how the f. can I miss the Warped Tour, right?”
“I’ve come out of my three- or four-month retirement for two reasons: to be with the Warped Tour family, and to be with the one, the only, the motherf-ing princess.”
Whibley had announced his retirement from music after Sum 41’s final tour earlier this year. His appearance at Warped Tour marked his first time back on stage since then.
After the show, Lavigne posted about the experience on her social media accounts. She called the night “everything I would have expected and more.” She also thanked the audience for the energy and called them “one of the best crowds” she’s played for.
She added:
“This legend @deryckwhibley from @sum41 joined me for one of the best pop punk anthems of all time, ‘In Too Deep.’”
Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley were married in 2006 and separated in 2009. Their relationship began when Lavigne was 19, and they remained friends after their divorce was finalized in 2010.
At the time of their split, Lavigne shared a message with fans through her blog:
“I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship. I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know, and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note.”
Their reunion at Warped Tour didn’t signal anything more than a musical moment, but it was a memorable one for fans of both artists.
