The Gist

Slipknot has been on a tear lately. Between nostalgia-drenched 25th-anniversary shows and an endless parade of collaborations (because why not?), the band’s summer could be described as anything but boring. Toss in the addition of Eloy Casagrande—yes, the ex-Sepultura drum wizard—and you’ve got a lineup that seems ready to shake things up. But apparently, the chaos doesn’t stop there. According to M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, fresh Slipknot music is barreling toward fans “sooner than you can imagine.”

This nugget of news emerged during an interview with Revolver, where Corey Taylor, Crahan, and Jim Root reflected on their self-titled debut’s milestone anniversary. Sure, they reminisced about the old days—what band doesn’t during an anniversary press junket? But when the conversation veered toward Slipknot’s next steps, Clown let slip a few details that sound… well, very Slipknot.

“There’s always going to be new Slipknot music,” Clown stated, as if reassuring fans who thought they might retire anytime soon. “But we’ve said it before: we are the filter, and that filter must go through everyone. Right now, we’re doing a much better job communicating—and that includes talking about music.”

And then came the cryptic kicker:

“There’s gonna be music sooner than you can imagine, delivered in a way you can’t imagine. And I’m excited because we’re not on a label. There’s dismay in that, sure, but also a lot of middle fingers. I love it. Come and get us—or we’ll come and get you!”

Ah the classic Slipknot bravado. Of course, “delivered in a way you can’t imagine” could mean literally anything. Carrier pigeon? Vinyl shaped like a clown nose? The possibilities are as absurd as they are endless.

Jim Root’s Take

Jim Root chimed in with a more grounded perspective—if you can call “riff mining” grounded. He revealed the band already has a stockpile of material, though not all of it is pristine. Some tracks stem from the manic haze of the COVID lockdowns, while newer ideas were born in jam sessions with Casagrande and bassist Alessandro “VMan” Venturella.

“We’ve got a bunch of holdover stuff from COVID, but let’s be honest—it wasn’t the greatest time for focused creativity,” Jim admitted. “There’s one tune Eloy played on from that batch. Some of the guys like it more than others. Personally, I don’t love it.”

He then described a more promising scenario:

“When Eloy and VMan stayed with me, we jammed in my home studio a few times while running Pro Tools. Ideas were flowing. Now, I’m sifting through it, looking for riffs to start arranging. Hopefully, we’ll carve out time for all of us to jam together in a room—like we did with the Iowa and self-titled albums.”

It sounds like Mr. Root is itching for Slipknot to rediscover their roots. Yeah, I don’t know, it’s still uncertain if they can reclaim the raw intensity of their earlier days. But at least they’re steering clear of cramming out half-baked ideas.

The interview dug into more than just upcoming music. There was chatter about the Look Outside Your Window project and speculation over Craig “133” Jones’ replacement—spoiler: no one’s figured it out yet. If you’ve got theories, feel free to add your voice to the echo chamber.

For a deeper dive into what the band had to say, you’ll want to read the full interview over at Revolver. Just don’t expect all the answers—Slipknot wouldn’t be Slipknot if they made it that easy. Middle fingers up, indeed.
