The Gist

Cradle of Filth has once again returned to the spotlight, with frontman Dani Filth making some bold claims about the band’s upcoming single, which is set to drop this October 22. While it’s hard to take every frontman’s promise at face value, especially when they start throwing around words like “catchy” and “heavy” in the same breath, Dani insists fans will “love it.” Yeah, well, we’ll see if they actually deliver or if this is just another album hyped up to sound like the second coming of “Dusk… and Her Embrace”—a claim they’ve danced around before.

Dani was refreshingly candid during a recent interview, mentioning that while the album has been a long time coming, the production is “fuck*ng amazing.” His words, not mine. He also hinted that the new material is an evolution from 2021’s Existence Is Futile, yet it’s got that “aggressive” and “catchy” combo we hear so much about. Let’s hope “catchy” doesn’t translate to poppy fluff, because Cradle fans, the real diehards, don’t have time for that.

But how about that album release? Well, it’s set for early 2025, possibly February if the stars align, but don’t hold your breath. Dani himself admitted he has “no idea” when it’ll actually drop, which is typical when the record label is pushing and the band’s been touring relentlessly. As for the October single, it’s dropping right before their European tour kicks off—a calculated move to keep fans hooked just in time for the spooky season. You can almost hear the marketing department rubbing their hands together.

As for the much-buzzed-about collaboration with Ed Sheeran, don’t expect that to pop up in this October release. Dani confirmed it’ll likely be featured in a special edition of the album, set for a later date. Yeah, because nothing says black metal like a ginger pop star. Still, the internet seems bizarrely excited to see what kind of Frankenstein’s monster these two can cook up, but for now, we’ll have to keep guessing.

The band is hitting the road for their UK and European tour this fall, with dates running from late October through December. You can catch them at venues like the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London, where they’ll inevitably pull out all the stops on Halloween night. It’s not every day you get to spend October 31st drenched in Cradle’s gothic madness, so I guess that’s one thing the fans can actually get excited about without the risk of delays or false promises.

But hey, will this single live up to Dani’s hype? Time will tell. But if you’ve been around long enough to remember Cradle’s glory days, you’ll approach this release with the skepticism it deserves. Here’s hoping it’s more than just a nostalgia cash grab.
