- Canadian cult metal band SACRED BLADE returns after a 20-year hiatus, with a live performance at the sold-out Keep It True festival on April 25, 2025.
- Vinyl reissue of their critically acclaimed 1986 debut album, ‘Of The Sun + Moon’, announced by Supreme Echo Records.
- Original members reunite to honor their legacy after the loss of Jeff Ulmer and Ted Zawadski, promising more to come.
SACRED BLADE, a name spoken in hushed tones in Canadian metal lore, is back. After 20 years of silence, the Vancouver legends are set to play again—kicking things off at Germany’s Keep It True festival on April 25, 2025. This announcement comes hand-in-hand with the vinyl reissue of their debut album, “Of The Sun + Moon”, by Supreme Echo Records.
If you’ve never heard of them (shame on you), SACRED BLADE dominated the underground metal scene in the early ’80s. Their inclusion on “Metal Massacre IV”—the same Metal Blade Records compilation that gave the world METALLICA and SLAYER—was just the beginning of their ascent. Then came their 1986 debut full-length album, “Of The Sun + Moon”, released on Black Dragon Records in France. Critics raved, fans obsessed. Why? Because no one—seriously, no one—was fusing raw heavy metal with space rock the way they did. And those melodic detours in their songs? Otherworldly.

Their cult following spread like wildfire across France, Germany, England, Holland, Belgium—even Japan. Back in Vancouver, they were hometown heroes, sharing stages with titans like SAXON, RAVEN, EXODUS, and METAL CHURCH.
But tragedy hit hard. Jeff Ulmer (guitars/vocals), the band’s creative force, passed away in 2013. Then, in 2020, drummer Ted Zawadski also passed, leaving fans convinced the SACRED BLADE story had reached its end.
Apparently not.
By 2021, the remaining band members couldn’t ignore the swelling demand. Fans wanted more. Fans needed more. With the classic lineup now reunited—James Channing (vocals, bass), Randy Robertson (guitar, vocals), Will Rascan (guitar), Paul Davis (drums, vocals), and Tony Moser (bass)—they’re ready to reignite the flame.
“This is long overdue!” says Robertson, who has taken charge of organizing live shows, marketing, and promotion. “We are grateful to everyone who has stuck with us from the beginning, and to those who encouraged us to continue our journey by sharing the music with old and new fans. Stay tuned — there’s lots more to come…”
Channing adds, “We are so honored to be acknowledged after all of these years! Especially when we receive accolades from a new generation of music fans that were not yet born when ‘Of The Sun + Moon’ was released. SACRED BLADE has stood the test of time and our music lives on.”
So here we are—April 2025 can’t come fast enough. If you haven’t secured your Keep It True ticket yet, you’re out of luck. It’s already sold out. Maybe sweet-talk a friend? Or find someone willing to part with theirs (at a steep price, no doubt).
Either way, SACRED BLADE proves that true artistry doesn’t fade. It waits—patiently—until it’s ready to blaze again.
