Summary
  • Deftones teased Private Music during their London show, with a cryptic date, possibly pointing to July 10, 2025.
  • A new album is reportedly finished, produced by Nick Raskulinecz, and could drop before their North American tour.
  • Frontman Chino Moreno confirmed a recent health issue after skipping Glastonbury, but the band is back on stage.

Deftones may be getting ready to release new music.

During their concert at Crystal Palace Park in London on June 29, the band displayed a graphic on large screens near the stage. The image included the phrase “PRIVATE MUSIC” and a date written in Roman numerals: X.VII.MMXXV.

Fans have taken this to mean July 10, 2025, with many expecting a new single to arrive on that date. Others wonder if it might be the release date for their next album.

However, since October 7 (another possible reading of the date) lands on a Tuesday, that seems unlikely, as albums are usually released on Fridays.

The graphic also showed a new logo featuring a circle with two curved lines. That same symbol has been added to the band’s official website: deftones.com.

This potential teaser follows reports that the band recently finished recording their tenth studio album. The sessions were produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who has previously worked with Alice In Chains and Foo Fighters.

In a December 2024 interview with Billboard Español, singer Chino Moreno said the record was “getting very close to being ready.” He had hoped to release a new single around their February tour with The Mars Volta, but no music was released at the time.

At the London show, the band performed without any issues. However, they had canceled their scheduled appearance at Glastonbury Festival the day before, citing a health concern. Onstage at Crystal Palace, Moreno confirmed he was the one affected but did not go into detail.

Fans continue to watch for updates, especially as the band wraps up their European tour on July 6. Their North American tour is set to begin on August 22, possibly leaving a window for a release or rehearsal of new material.

The band’s most recent album, Ohms, was released in 2020.

About Deftones

Deftones are an American rock band formed in Sacramento, California, in 1988. Known for blending elements of alternative metal, shoegaze, and experimental rock, the group has developed a loyal following over the years for their emotionally intense sound and dynamic live shows.

The band’s lineup includes Chino Moreno (vocals), Stephen Carpenter (guitar), Abe Cunningham (drums), Frank Delgado (keyboards/samples), and Sergio Vega’s replacement Fred Sablan on bass during live performances. Deftones suffered a major loss in 2013 when original bassist Chi Cheng passed away following complications from a 2008 car accident.

Their breakthrough came with the release of Around the Fur (1997) and was solidified by White Pony (2000), which included hits like Change (In the House of Flies). The album received both critical acclaim and commercial success, helping the band stand out from other acts of the nu metal era.

But over time Deftones moved away from genre labels, focusing instead on crafting layered, textured records. Albums like Diamond Eyes (2010), Koi No Yokan (2012), and Ohms (2020) showcase their evolution while staying true to their core sound.
