Evanescence's AMY LEE Reflects On Pandemic-Era Lessons: 'Who Knows When This Will Ever End? So Let’s Put Out Our Music'
Singer says the uncertainty of COVID reshaped her approach to releasing music.

Summary
- Amy Lee says the pandemic changed how Evanescence releases music, singles came out while the album was still in progress.
- New music will continue throughout 2025, with a full Evanescence album expected in early 2026.
- Afterlife and Fight Like A Girl reflect the band’s flexible release style and soundtrack collaborations with Netflix and Ballerina.
Amy Lee says the pandemic changed how Evanescence approaches releasing music. In a recent interview with WDHA-FM, the singer explained that waiting for a perfect moment to drop a full album no longer feels realistic.
Back in 2020, when touring stopped and uncertainty set in, Evanescence had only a few songs finished for what would become their album The Bitter Truth.
Instead of holding back, they chose to release what they had.

“We had four songs recorded and we weren’t finished making the album. So we just started putting them out, ’cause at that time it was like, ‘Well, who knows when this is ever gonna end?’” Amy said. “Let’s put out our music.”
The experience gave the band a new sense of freedom. Sharing songs as they were completed, instead of waiting for a polished, full-length release, helped them stay connected with listeners and keep momentum going.
Amy wants to carry that same mindset into 2025. She said the plan is to continue releasing singles and side projects throughout the year, with a full album likely to follow in early 2026.
“That felt so good, to have the satisfaction of engagement and the release of songs when they’re still fresh… I want this year to feel like that,” she said. “Just doing that throughout the year and then probably full release will be early next year.”
A More Flexible Future
This shift in thinking reflects a broader trend in the music industry, where streaming and social media have made it easier to drop songs without needing to stick to traditional album cycles. For Evanescence, it means less waiting and more creating.
Along with the upcoming album, Amy has stayed active with soundtrack work. The band’s recent single “Afterlife” appeared in the Netflix series Devil May Cry, while “Fight Like A Girl”, a collaboration with K.Flay, was featured in the action film Ballerina, part of the John Wick universe.
Both tracks were released as standalone singles, following the same just-in-time approach that Amy says suits the band’s current rhythm.
Looking Ahead
Evanescence plans to keep busy in the months ahead. Live appearances include a one-off show with My Chemical Romance, a stadium run with Metallica in Australia, and a few high-profile festivals.
Amy described the year’s touring schedule as “fun things only”, focusing on creative work first and building live shows around it.
With more music on the way and no rigid release schedule, Evanescence is moving forward at their own pace. Amy says that’s how she prefers it.
“I’m just having a YOLO moment. I have no time to waste. Let’s do this.”
