Foo Fighters have released a new track titled “Today’s Song” (watch below) to celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut album. The single is available now on major streaming platforms.

This is the band’s first original release since their 2023 album, But Here We Are. It follows their recent cover of Minor Threat’s 1981 hardcore song “I Don’t Wanna Hear It”, which came out just days earlier.

“Today’s Song” opens with a quiet organ and vocals from Dave Grohl, who sings about change and regret. The lyrics seem to reflect personal struggles, possibly linked to Grohl’s admitted affair that led to the cancellation of the band’s 2024 tour. The music gradually builds into the Foo Fighters’ familiar mix of guitars and steady rock rhythms.

Grohl also played drums on the track. Although he’s known for his drumming from his Nirvana days, he rarely takes over that role in Foo Fighters. He returned to the kit during the making of But Here We Are and continues here.

The release comes as part of a larger celebration called #FF30, which marks three decades since the band’s first album dropped in 1995. As part of that celebration, the Foo Fighters launched a Substack page where fans can read stories, view rare photos, and see updates directly from the band.

In a message posted to the band’s website, Grohl reflected on the highs and lows of their long career. He thanked former members William Goldsmith, Franz Stahl, and Josh Freese, calling their contributions important to the band’s history.

Freese, who joined in 2023 to replace late drummer Taylor Hawkins, was recently let go. His replacement has not been announced.

Grohl also paid tribute to Hawkins, who died in 2022. “Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile,” Grohl wrote. “You are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever.”

The band has been off the road since Grohl revealed the affair last August. They’re expected to return to touring this October with dates in Jakarta, Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka, and Mexico City.

Foo Fighters’ upcoming tour dates:

  • Oct. 2 – Jakarta, Indonesia (Carnaval Ancol)
  • Oct. 4 – Singapore (F1 Event)
  • Oct. 7 – Tokyo, Japan (Saitama Super Arena)
  • Oct. 10 – Osaka, Japan (Glion Arena Kobe)
  • Nov. 14 – Mexico City, Mexico (Corona Capital Festival)

The current Foo Fighters lineup includes Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffee. The artwork for “Today’s Song” was created by Grohl’s daughter, Harper Grohl.
