Halestorm has unveiled a new official video for “Darkness Always Wins,” the band’s first release of 2025 (watch it below). Directed by DJay Brawner and produced by Dave Cobb, the song builds slowly with a cinematic tone and sits firmly in the band’s hard rock catalog.

The track will appear on Halestorm’s upcoming sixth studio album, “Everest,” which arrives August 8 on Atlantic Records.

A Song About Reality, Not Hope

According to frontwoman Lzzy Hale, the song isn’t meant to inspire or depress. It’s more of a statement.

“It is reality. History repeating. Evil prevails and the good depart first,” she said. “But we are not doomed as long as we persist and keep our fires burning.”

Guitarist Joe Hottinger added that the track came out of early studio sessions in Savannah, Georgia, where the band began working with producer Dave Cobb. He described it as a “test session” that quickly led to a productive collaboration.

‘Everest’ Is Personal

The band previously shared the video for the title track “Everest”, which shows people in moments of crisis, mixed with a high-energy performance from the band.

Lzzy called the track “the summit of everything we’ve fought for.” She added that the new album is louder, bolder, and more emotionally honest than their past work.

Everest was produced by Dave Cobb, a Grammy winner known for work with Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, and Jason Isbell. This is Halestorm’s first time working with him, and the process was different from their usual routine.

Writing Without a Net

In an interview with Cutter’s Rockcast, Lzzy shared how the recording approach changed. Instead of using pre-written material, Cobb insisted they write and record at the same time. No demos. No click tracks. Just real-time collaboration.

“We’d walk in, someone would toss out a lyric or riff, and we’d just run with it,” she said.

The process felt both chaotic and liberating. Some songs don’t even have guide tracks because the band forgot to add them.

A Return to the Basement

Lzzy said the album feels like a return to the band’s early days.

“It’s like we’re back in our parents’ basement,” she said. “Only now we know what we’re doing.”

Without outside pressure or a strict timeline, Halestorm recorded most of Everest in a secluded house near a river in Georgia. They worked into the early morning hours and experimented freely.

“We were unsupervised in the best way,” Lzzy added. “This is our story. Our personal opus. Some songs are heavy. Some are quiet. But they’re all ours.”

What to Expect

Halestorm plans to support Iron Maiden on tour in Europe, play Black Sabbath’s final show on July 5, and return to the U.S. for a co-headlining tour with Volbeat. In September, they’ll launch the “nEVEREST” North American tour with Lindsey Stirling and Apocalyptica.
