The Gist

Ice Nine Kills just lost a piece of their rhythm section, and no, it’s not some dramatic ‘spooky’ horror movie twist. Patrick Galante, who’s been holding down the drum kit since 2018, has decided to hang up his sticks—at least with INK. Maybe the guy finally had enough of their ‘horror-core’ shtick? Either way, he’s out.

Galante’s first mark with the band was on the track “Your Number’s Up” from The Silver Scream, their horror movie-themed album, and that unforgettable cover of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

If you thought he was just passing through, he locked in his place when he got fully featured on The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood. That was the era where he really made himself known—while wearing whatever fake blood-splattered costumes the band had cooked up.

In his official statement, Galante said his goodbyes with a mix of gratitude and…well, let’s just say he’s not exactly fading into obscurity:

“Performing with Ice Nine Kills has been an incredible experience, and I can’t thank my brothers in INK enough for their trust and faith in me throughout the past 6 years.

“That being said, I’ve made the difficult decision to part ways with Ice Nine Kills. I’m excited to watch INK continue their success as I pursue other creative and musical projects.

“Thank you all for your continued support of my endeavors. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life and career, so keep your eyes and ears open for what’s to come.

“This is not my departure from music. This is not my retirement from the stage. This is just the ending of a chapter, and I’m ready to explore the rest of my story. I am happy, healthy, and thankful for all your support.”

Right, so basically, he’s not done playing—just moving on from the band’s latest installment of ‘Horror Movie: The Musical.

What we don’t know yet is who will replace him. Ice Nine Kills has gone through a few drummers in the past, but Galante really became part of their core. Whoever steps in next will have some big (and probably blood-stained) shoes to fill.

One thing’s for sure, though: INK fans will feel the change. Hopefully, the band’s next move isn’t another clichéd announcement about how the “new guy” will “bring a fresh energy.” We’ve all heard that one before.
