Jack Osbourne has shared how he learned his father, Ozzy Osbourne, had died. In a YouTube video posted Wednesday, Jack said a longtime family employee came to his Los Angeles home at 3:45 a.m. and delivered the news in person.

“When I looked through my window and I saw it was him, I knew something bad had happened,” Jack said. “I was informed that my father had passed.”

Jack, 39, described the moment as shocking and painful, but he also spoke about feeling a degree of peace. He said that after years of health struggles, his father was no longer in pain.

Ozzy had been public about his Parkinson’s disease, other health challenges, and recent mobility issues.

Jack also explained that he had just spent unexpected extra time with his dad in the U.K. leading up to Ozzy’s death.

After Black Sabbath’s July 5 “Back to the Beginning” concert in Birmingham, the family planned to take a vacation in Portugal.

They stayed in England instead when Jack’s kids came down with a stomach bug. “I’ve never been more grateful for my kids to have the stomach flu than I am today,” he said, noting that the delay gave him additional days with his father.

Ozzy Osbourne died July 22, 2025. He was 76. The death certificate listed cardiac arrest as the cause of death, with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease as contributing factors.

Reports at the time said an air ambulance was dispatched to his home. The family confirmed his passing in a statement asking for privacy and thanking fans for their support.

Just over two weeks before his death, Ozzy reunited with original bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for the “Back to the Beginning” benefit concert in Birmingham. Because of his mobility limitations, Ozzy performed seated on a “bat throne.”

The show raised funds for Parkinson’s research and local charities. Jack attended and said he was “mesmerized” watching his father take the stage one last time.

Friends of the family later said the concert energized Ozzy and lifted his spirits.

For Jack, the performance felt like a deliberate final chapter: a hometown show with the original lineup, a public goodbye before a private farewell.

The Osbournes have never hidden their family life. Their MTV series “The Osbournes” introduced viewers to the household more than two decades ago, and that openness continued after Ozzy’s passing.

Sharon Osbourne acknowledged tributes online and thanked well-wishers.

Kelly Osbourne posted a message quoting “Changes,” the Black Sabbath ballad she and her father recorded together in 2003. “I feel unhappy I am so sad, I lost the best friend I ever had,” she wrote. She later shared a photo of a lakeside floral arrangement reading “Ozzy F***ing Osbourne,” a nod to her father’s irreverent persona.

The family also participated in a funeral procession in Birmingham, meeting fans and honoring Ozzy’s connection to his hometown.

While the first public statement had requested privacy, the Osbournes balanced that with gestures that recognized the scale of his impact and the affection of longtime supporters.

Jack emphasized that his father remained mentally sharp despite how he sometimes appeared. “People may have thought he was checked out,” Jack said. “But most of the time he wanted you to think he was checked out. He was very aware, always.”

He also described Ozzy as complicated, funny, awkward in a charming way, and insightful. The image he painted was of a global rock icon who was also a present grandfather and a familiar presence at home.

Kelly has previously said her young son was “best friends” with Ozzy, and family posts often showed the domestic side of the singer known as the “Prince of Darkness.”

Jack closed his video by reflecting on the time he had with his dad. “I got 14,501 days with that man,” he said, calling it a blessing.

He also shared a favorite line often attributed to Hunter S. Thompson about skidding into life’s finish “thoroughly used up, totally worn out,” which he said captured his father’s spirit.

The final weeks:

  • July 5, 2025: Ozzy performs seated at Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” concert in Birmingham with Iommi, Butler, and Ward. The benefit raises money for Parkinson’s research and local causes.
  • Mid-July 2025: Jack remains in England with his family after his children fall ill, giving him extra time with Ozzy.
  • July 22, 2025: Ozzy Osbourne dies at age 76. The family issues a statement asking for privacy.
  • Early August 2025: The death certificate lists cardiac arrest as the cause of death, with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease contributing.
  • Following weeks: Sharon and Kelly share tributes online; the family joins a funeral procession in Birmingham.

Ozzy Osbourne helped define heavy metal as Black Sabbath’s frontman and sustained a solo career that kept him in the public eye for decades.

He later became a fixture of reality TV, bringing a different kind of fame to his family. In his final months, he talked openly about wanting to spend more time in England and with his grandchildren.

For Jack, the story ends not with a stage moment but with a number: 14,501 days. It’s how he marks the time he had with his father, and it’s how he wants to remember him, present, aware, and loved, right up to the end.
