Jordan Mancino Steps Back: As I Lay Dying Faces Internal Challenges
The band’s struggles deepen with another member stepping away from touring.
- Jordan Mancino steps back from As I Lay Dying due to “ongoing internal issues” within the band.
- Josh Gilbert recently left the band, with Ryan Neff and Ken Susi stepping in to fill gaps.
- The band’s tour with Whitechapel and Shadow of Intent begins tomorrow, but no replacement drummer has been announced.
The chaos surrounding As I Lay Dying just keeps piling up. After Josh Gilbert made his grand exit, the band scrambled to patch things together by roping in Ryan Neff of Miss May I to cover bass and vocals, while Ken Susi of Unearth stepped in on guitar. Now, drummer Jordan Mancino has decided he’s not banging on anything until the band sorts itself out.
In a statement that practically screams “I’ve had enough,” Mancino addressed the situation: “To all of our fans, my friends, family, and supporters in the industry—there are some ongoing internal issues within As I Lay Dying that need resolving. It was my preference to avoid further touring until those issues were settled. Since that hasn’t happened, I’m stepping back from performing on any upcoming dates until further notice. Thank you for understanding.”

Cryptic? Absolutely. But it’s not like bands ever spell it out. You’ve got to love the “ongoing issues” line—it’s the Swiss Army knife of explanations. Meanwhile, As I Lay Dying is still mum about who’s going to fill Mancino’s seat behind the kit.
With the next leg of the tour kicking off tomorrow (10) alongside Whitechapel and Shadow of Intent, the clock is ticking. Either they’ve got a replacement lined up, or someone’s going to be YouTubing “How to drum in metalcore” at the soundcheck.
