The Gist

Seems like Korn is dusting off the nostalgia box and pulling out another fan art contest—this time to mark 30 years of Korn wreaking havoc on the rock scene. If you’ve been around since Issues (like I have), you probably remember that 1999 art contest where fans had a chance to slap their artwork on the cover of the album.

Four variant covers, one poorly made CD, and a shattered case later, I was still out there buying every version. My masterpiece of a cat driving a jeep didn’t make the cut back then, and yeah, I’m still salty. But that’s life, right?

Now they’re back at it, launching this new fan art contest to celebrate their three-decade rampage. This time, they’ve expanded their horizons: no album cover this round. Instead, they want to see your vision of what 30 years of Korn means.

And before you start sketching out your deep interpretation of Jonathan Davis growling in Adidas tracksuits, here’s what they’re saying about it on Instagram:

“Our fans are so important to us, and we are thrilled to announce our KoRn Fan Art contest. Show us your interpretation of 30 years of our music, art, energy, message, and meaning in visual form. You can draw inspiration from a lyric, album, show memory, video, or anything KoRn that is meaningful to you.

The Grand Prize winners, hand-selected by us, will have their artwork featured in the VIP experience and throughout the concourse area at all shows on our North American tour, their art signed by us, and receive two VIP tickets to a KoRn concert of their choice. We can’t wait to see your submissions.”

Is it as cool as getting your art slapped onto an album cover? I don’t know, maybe. There’s something about VIP experiences and rubbing elbows with the band that might just make it even better—if you’re into that sort of thing. The contest runs through September 5, so crack open your set of colored pencils and draw your best cat shredding on a seven-string, preferably decked out in Adidas. Hmm, not bad. I might have to steal that idea for my submission.

While you’re prepping your artistic magnum opus, here’s the full rundown of dates for their upcoming North American tour with Gojira and Spiritbox. Maybe see if your art can make it to one of those shows.
