Korn’s Brian “Head” Welch Fights Back Against Mental Health Struggles
- Partnership: Welch has co-founded Atlantic Behavioral Health, a treatment center focused on providing intensive outpatient care for mental health issues in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
- Holistic Approach: The center offers a combination of individual therapy, group therapy, and medication management.
Brian “Head” Welch, the guitarist of Korn, has recently thrown himself into the mental health arena. He’s teamed up with Atlantic Behavioral Health, a fresh facility in Wilmington, Massachusetts. This center is all about tackling mental health head-on—think intensive outpatient programs for anxiety, depression, and more.
Welch isn’t just dabbling in this for fun. No, this hits home. He’s wrestled with demons of his own and is on a mission to create a safe space for others facing the same struggles. “Partnering with Atlantic is so personal to me and not just another business to invest in,” he declared. Bold statement coming from a guy who’s seen the dark side.

He recalls living in what felt like an “emotional dungeon,” without a light switch to turn on. The idea of community? That’s what he missed. Welch wishes he had a group of people who really got it. He explains, “I did go to a psychiatrist [years back], but I felt like he was so smart…I didn’t have a group, I didn’t have the community.” Atlantic aims to fill that gap. The center offers individual therapy, group therapy, and medication management—the trifecta of mental health support.
Greg Bacos, the clinical director at Atlantic, adds that they customize treatment plans monthly. It’s about stabilizing symptoms and getting people back to living their lives.
Since rejoining Korn in 2013, Welch has made it clear: his focus now includes helping others break free from their chains. “With the exception of a few bumps in the road, over the last 20 years, I have been the happiest I’ve ever been in my life,” he says.
