Summary
  • Wes Borland performed in full skull-faced James Hetfield cosplay, complete with a ‘Metal Up Your Ass’ tee and white high-tops.
  • The Denver show marked Limp Bizkit’s final appearance on Metallica’s ongoing M72 world tour.
  • Borland had recently shared a solo version of Orion on Instagram, calling it just some ‘loopidy loopin’ at home.

Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland turned heads at Metallica’s Denver show on Friday by dressing up like a skull-faced version of 1980s James Hetfield (watch below).

The look included a “Metal Up Your Ass” t-shirt and white high-top sneakers, all while performing a full 10-song set.

The show took place at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado. It was the final stop for Limp Bizkit as an opening act on Metallica’s “M72” world tour, which began in April 2023 in Amsterdam.

Borland’s outfit paid tribute to Metallica’s early days, combining his usual flair with a nod to the band’s iconic frontman.

Video clips from fans at the concert show Borland in full costume, playing through hits while channeling Hetfield’s vintage style.

Earlier this year, Borland also posted his own spin on Metallica’s instrumental track “Orion” from the album Master of Puppets. He shared the clip on Instagram, joking that he was just “horsing around and loopidy loopin” at home that day.

This isn’t the first time Limp Bizkit has covered Metallica. In 2003, the band performed “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” during the “mtvICON: Metallica” tribute special.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich spoke positively about Limp Bizkit in a 2003 interview with Metal Edge magazine. At the time, he explained why they invited the band to join the “Summer Sanitarium” tour lineup.

Whether you like him or you hate him, [Fred Durst] is an innovator,” Lars said. “Fred Durst is a fuckin’ pioneer, and I will yell that from every rooftop.

He added that after the MTV tribute performance, there was a noticeable shift in how fans talked about Durst. “On all the Metallica threads on our website, it’s all respect to Fred Durst,” he said.
