KITTIE could be back in the studio again soon.

Guitarist and vocalist Morgan Lander says the band is open to releasing more new music, thanks to the positive energy surrounding their recent reunion (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET) (via TotalRock) .

“I think there’s probably going to be some more releases,” Lander said during an interview at the Download Festival in the U.K. “We’re really enjoying ourselves.”

After more than a decade of silence, the Canadian metal band returned in 2024 with Fire, their first album since 2011’s I’ve Failed You. The group had originally reunited for a few one-off shows. But when the reception was stronger than expected, things changed.

“Five years ago we were definitely not doing the band at all,” Lander said. “It wasn’t even on our radar.”

Kittie’s lineup once featured twin sisters who learned to play their instruments by ear while watching VHS tapes of Slayer concerts. They formed the band at ages 14 and 16, long before they had driver’s licenses. Their first rehearsal space was a friend’s garage, where the only “soundproofing” was duct tape on the windows.

KITTIE’s comeback started with a documentary project, Origins/Evolutions, which was released in 2018. That project sparked interest from fans and led to festival invitations in the U.S. It also helped the band connect with Sumerian Records, the label that eventually released Fire.

Now the group is booked for more shows throughout the year, including U.S. and European festivals (Get Tickets Here). There’s also a special milestone coming up: the 25th anniversary of Spit, KITTIE’s 2000 debut album.

While nothing is confirmed, Lander says the band is in a good place to keep going.

“We have some anniversary-type things coming up. Who knows what we might do,” she added.

The current KITTIE lineup includes Lander, her sister Mercedes (drums), Tara McLeod (guitar), and Ivana “Ivy” Vujic (bass). Vujic previously played on In the Black (2009) and I’ve Failed You.

After years spent away from music, Lander working in marketing, and Mercedes in tech, the band had to relearn how to write and record together. But the process, Lander says, was worth it.

“We practiced for almost a year,” she said. “But that very first show, as soon as you stepped out on stage, it was like, ‘I remember how to do this.’”
