The Gist

Slipknot’s lineup has been feeling a bit like a revolving door lately, hasn’t it? Members coming, members going, and the occasional mystery replacement that leaves fans scratching their heads. (Still no clue who’s filling Craig “133” Jones’ spot, by the way.) So when Shawn “Clown” Crahan was a no-show at Sonic Temple over the weekend, the eyebrow-raising started almost immediately.

Turns out, Crahan wasn’t pulling some cryptic Slipknot stunt or taking an extended sabbatical. He was sidelined by a medical issue—a busted tooth, of all things. Frontman Corey Taylor didn’t leave fans hanging. Addressing the crowd, he explained why Clown wasn’t behind his usual percussion chaos:

“Obviously we are missing one of our brothers. Clown, yesterday, broke a tooth and had to have it removed. There’s an issue. He had to stay home for medical reasons. But he insisted that we come here and fucking play this fucking show for each and every goddamn one of you.

“He is missed, he is essential and, god damn it, on the count of three, I want you to fucking tell him all that he is so fucking loved. I want to hear you scream — one, two, three!”

Ever had a tooth break at the worst possible time? Then you know the level of misery Crahan’s dealing with. A broken tooth isn’t just painful—it’s the kind of pain that takes over your entire brain. Having gone through that nightmare myself, I can tell you it’s the kind of thing you wouldn’t even wish on your worst enemy. Well, maybe your worst enemy, but only on a really bad day.

The silver lining? Crahan’s absence is only temporary. No long-term drama, no lineup shake-ups—just a guy recovering from some serious dental hell. And while fans eagerly wait for his return, there’s another event looming on the horizon: the band’s first live performance of “Long May You Die.”

This isn’t just another Slipknot single—it’s the first track to feature both Eloy Casagrande on drums and the mystery replacement for Jones. That makes it a pretty big deal in the band’s lore. The song’s origins? Part of Casagrande’s audition process, where the band apparently put him through the wringer.

In his own words:

“[The band] asked me to extend my stay by another five days, so we could record some things. I think that was also part of the audition, they threw new ideas at me to see what my songwriting was like. They wanted to test me in every way.”

Eloy stepped up, nailed the audition, and now has his name attached to this new phase of Slipknot’s career. But the song will hit hard enough to justify all the anticipation? Time will tell. One thing’s for sure, though: Crahan will want to be back in the fold before that track hits the stage. You don’t want to miss that moment, even if you’re recovering from the world’s angriest toothache.
