The Gist

Slipknot’s DJ, Sid Wilson, just served up a reminder that fire doesn’t play favorites—or fair. After a recent explosion left him with some nasty burns, he spoke with Fox News about what happened, and it’s a classic tale of human impatience versus nature’s unforgiving tendencies. Spoiler alert: fire won.

Sid explained that he was tending a wood burn pile on his Iowa property. For those unfamiliar, a burn pile is a heap of wood and debris set ablaze to reduce wildfire risks. Sounds harmless enough, right? Not when you toss gasoline into the mix. Sid admitted:

“I lit it and let it burn down. The next day, I went to check how much was left. There was still debris around, so, like an idiot, I did what you’re not supposed to do—I added gas to it.”

Apparently, the search for a long branch to light the pile safely turned into a lesson in bad decision-making. Sid continued:

“I couldn’t find a branch quickly, and my impatience got the better of me. I thought, screw it, I’ll be fine. I squatted down, reached out, and lit it. Because of the humidity, vapors were still lingering, and then… woof. It exploded.”

Humid Iowa summer + flammable vapors = a faceful of “woof.” Physics, my friends. It’s undefeated.

Now let’s talk about the aftermath. Sid described his injuries in a way that makes you wince while begrudgingly admiring his bluntness:

“My whole right arm is bandaged up, half of my left arm too. My face? Basically melted from the nose down. But the swelling’s gone down, and they said the face is amazing—regenerative and heals fast.”

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the casual drop of “melted from the nose down” like he’s talking about a sunburn.

Despite everything, Sid seems grateful to have walked away with his limbs intact:

“I’ve had better days, but I’m alive, so I’m doing good.”

His biggest takeaway? A simple yet profound warning:

“Don’t f** around with fire. It’s going to win every time.”*

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a life motto Smokey Bear could slap on a billboard.

Sid is now recovering and will hopefully think twice before giving gasoline another starring role in his backyard experiments. Until then, we at Loud Legends wish him a quick recovery—and maybe a little extra patience next time nature’s involved. Fire doesn’t care about your schedule, Sid.
