After years of writing, drifting, and starting over, Evan Dando is back. The Lemonheads are set to release their first studio album in almost two decades, titled Love Chant, arriving October 24 via Fire Records.

The new single, “In The Margin,” is out now and it’s classic Dando, wobbly and gorgeous, with a melody that lures you in before flipping the mood (watch it below).

“I wanted a song full of riffs,” Dando said. “So I added riffs everywhere. The body of the song is by Marciana (Marciana Jones). It’s kind of like an eighth-grade revenge song: ‘Stupidly I left the escape plans out so they could find my way.’”

Now living in Brazil, where much of the album was recorded, Dando says the change of scenery helped him reset and finally finish a batch of songs that had been taking shape for years.

The result is a record that feels both new and familiar, built on The Lemonheads’ signature sound but shaped by fresh experiences and different surroundings.

Love Chant arrives just before Dando’s upcoming memoir, Rumours Of My Demise, which is set for release November 6 through Faber.

The album was produced by Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Apollo Nove and features a mix of longtime friends and new collaborators. Familiar names like J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr), Juliana Hatfield, and Tom Morgan (co-writer of “Deep End”) return, along with contributions from producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Antony and the Johnsons), Nashville singer Erin Rae, John Strohm (Blake Babies, co-writer/guitarist on “Togetherness”), and Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond, who wrote and performed on the psychedelic track “Roky”). Adam Green of The Moldy Peaches also joins as co-writer of the country-tinged “Wild Thing.”

Over the past few years, The Lemonheads’ influence has only grown. Artists like MJ Lenderman, Courtney Barnett, and Waxahatchee have covered Dando’s songs, drawn to his emotional clarity, melodic instincts, and offbeat intimacy.
